Willing to reward the hard work and creativity of short and medium films authors, the Télébec prize has existed for 36 years. This jury will choose among 27 movies, the big winner for the 1 000 $ grant.
Writer, musician and board games creator, Bruno Crépeau won three times the Prix littéraire de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue. In 2015, he cofounded Adama Productions, a business for video creation and new medias, in Val-d’Or.
Magali Monderie Larouche is from Rouyn-Noranda, where she came back after her masters degree in international relations. Ever since she got back, Magali has worked as a director in entrepreneurial and video production fields, to eventually become the general director of the Festival de musique émergente, as of today.
Dominique Paquin-Raymond combines numeric creation studies (field cinema) and communication. As a strategist for LEBLEU communication humaine since the last three years, her daily life consists in developing bold marketing strategies, adapted to various mediums. Being a true lover of her region and a curious spirit, she devours culture in every aspect and she is committed to many local events. It is with great pleasure that she has accepted to serve as a juror for the Télébec prize.
For 17 years, the Caisse Desjardins and the Festival du cinéma international en Abitibi-Témiscamingue have been rewarding and enhancing the up-and-coming cultural and local talent, offering them an exceptional exposure. The jury will have to choose among a selection of short films by the 2019-2020 students of the Cégep de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue and of the UQAT. The most outstanding movie from each school will be granted a 500 $ prize.
As an University of Montreal film graduate, Annie-Claude Caron has worked on numerous Quebec and United-States film sets before coming back to her great homeland, Abitibi-Témiscamingue. Last year, she offered to the Festival the short documentary, Gino Bouleau, codirected with Danick Audet. It has travelled to many festivals in the province of Quebec. She is also a video artist at the Productions 3 Tiers and she is currently screenwriting her next fiction film, with the support of the SODEC.
Graduate of a master’s degree in digital creation, Valentin Foch is in charge of digital projects for the Petit Théâtre, attending artists in their process or integrating technologies in living arts. His work consists in trying to humanize the artificial aspect of daily objects, wanting to explore the technologies’ souls. In 2016, he also cofounded the collectives VJing and CrocoDeal Dunil.
Graduate of the Cégep de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue in Art and Letters and the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue in Digital Creation, MARIKA JACOB was the winner for the Prix de la relève Desjardins in 2009, then more recently, she received the reward for her Contribution to the cultural enlightenment Prize for culture by Ville de Rouyn-Noranda. For a number of years, she was the television coordinator for TVC9, now, she is the Media Project Manager at la Formation continue of the UQAT: her vibrant love for cinema and video is indubitably still strong.
All short films are eligible for the Télé-Québec prize, a grant of 1 000 $, as well as the Spira prize, 10 000 $ to rent equipment or post production services.
François Charette is a director who was born in Rouyn-Noranda. After a stint on the music scene, he obtained baccalaureate in interactive multimedia with minor in cinema at the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue. Having directed many short films, in 2012 he received the Prix Télé-Québec Espace court of the Festival du cinéma international en Abitibi-Témiscamingue with his movie, La faim. Moreover, he was recognized by his peers, winning the 2013, the Prix Relève at the prize giving for Excellence in arts and culture in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. Having worked for seven years in advertisement, he now works at the UQAT while simultaneously pursuing a career as an independent filmmaker.
Rémi Fréchette began the cinematographic creation with the movement Kino, when he directed multiple short films. After getting his diploma for Film Production at Concordia University, he co-wrote and directed Les jaunes, a comic-fantastic Web series released in 2013 on Tou.tv and later adapted as a feature film to browse the circuit of genre film festivals. His second Web series, L’étrange province, wins the Numix in category Humour et variété (2016). He supervised, coproduced and directed a segment of feature anthological film Montreal Dead End (2018) and cohosted the cinema-themed podcast, Point de vues (2012-2020). In addition to work as a video editor and director for television, he also works on two feature film projects. Since 2018, he is the programmer for the Fantastiques week-ends, the Québec segment of Festival Fantasia.
Aude Weber-Houde is a guest teacher in digital medias at the University du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue. She has been teaching cinema for about ten years, in its theoretical and practical dimensions.Elle enseigne le cinéma depuis une dizaine d’années, tant dans sa dimension théorique que pratique. She is currently writing a PhD thesis in cinematographic studies at the Université de Montréal, in which she studies various sensorial gimmicks implemented in screening rooms, called sometimes 4D cinema.: tricked seats, smells, atmospheric and stereoscopic elements! She is also a member of the team for the Concours international de composition de musique de film of Montreal, since its foundation in 2015. Aude Weber-Houde has a weakness for the genre of horror in particular and is very interested in so-called cult films.
