Michel Ocelot
Born in France, Michel Ocelot spent his childhood in Guinea before settling in Paris. He first directed animated shorts on his own, notably Les 3 Inventeurs (1980) and La Légende du Pauvre Bossu (1983). He was discovered by the general public in 1998 with his first feature film, Kirikou et la Sorcière. This was followed by Princes et Princesses, and Kirikou et les Bêtes Sauvages and Azur & Asmar, selected at Cannes in 2006 as part of the Quinzaine des réalisateurs. In 2008, the DVD Les Trésors Cachés by Michel Ocelot was released. Directed in shadow theatre and 3D, Les Contes de la nuit was released in 2011. In 2012, Kirikou et les Hommes et les Femmes was released. His latest feature film, Dilili à Paris, won the 2019 César for best animated film.
