In 2002, on the banks of Magdalena Medio, José returned home at dawn to discover that paramilitary forces had killed his two sons, Dionisio and Rafael and threw their bodies into the river. To prevent their tormented souls from being stuck in this world, he begins a lonely journey to retrieve them and provide a proper burial. Aboard his canoe, José discovers the magic of a country torn into pieces.

Biographie

Nicolás Rincón Gille

Nicolás Rincón Gille, a Colombian director, worked on three short films before his documentary trilogy Campo hablado, about the greatness of the Colombian oral teaching tradition. The first part, Those waiting in the dark (2007), received the Joris-Ivens prize at the Cinéma du réel, while the second, The embrace of the river (2010), was rewarded at the Festival des 3 continents. Wounded night (2015), the ending part of the series, got the special mention of the international jury at the Cinéma du Réel and he gets nominated for Best Film in the Colombian competition of the FCCI. Tantas Almas (Valley of souls) is his first fiction feature film.
