In the eastern city of Montreal, a young boy goes to a local restaurant to pick up hot dogs for himself and his grandmother who's ailing. There, he finds an anxious waitress because she's alone on the floor. The kid awaits his order, which takes longer than usual, and takes the opportunity to observe the other customers in the restaurant.
