After the death of his older brother Joe, Lee Chandler is shocked to learn that Joe has made him sole guardian of his nephew Patrick. Taking leave of his job, Lee reluctantly returns to Manchester-by-the-Sea to care for Patrick, a spirited 16-year-old, and is forced to deal with a past that separated him from his wife Randi and the community where he was born and raised. Kenneth Lonergan is a playwright, screenwriter and director. His film, You Can Count On Me, which he both wrote and directed, was nominated for an Oscar for Best Screenplay. Among its other awards, it also won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance (2000). Lonergan co-wrote the film Gangs of New York, which was nominated by the WGA and the Oscars for Best Original Screenplay. His plays have been shown in both New York and London.
