Algiers, 1990s. Nedjma, 18, a student living on university campus, dreams of becoming a stylist. At night, accompanied by her best friends, she slips through the wire fences of the city to get to the nightclub where she sells her creations to "papichas", pretty young Algerian girls. The political and social situation of the country continues to deteriorate. Refusing to give up and defying all authority, Nedjma decides to fight for her freedom by organizing a fashion show.

Biographie

Mounia Meddour

After studying journalism at the Faculty of Algiers, Mounia Meddour obtained a master's degree in information and communication at Paris 8. In 2000, she studied film making at La Fémis and production at the European Film Production Training Centre. She has directed several documentaries, including Particules élémentaires (2007), La cuisine en héritage (2009) and Cinéma algérien : un nouveau souffle (2011). Her short film Edwige (2012) was selected in many international festivals and won several awards. Papicha is her first feature film.
