Italy 1609. Accused of murder, Caravaggio fled Rome and took refuge in Naples.Supported by the powerful Colonna family, Caravaggio tried to obtain a pardon from the Church to return to Rome. The Pope, wondering whether he should be granted clemency for killing a rival, decides to have an inquisitor, the Shadow, investigate the painter, whose art is deemed subversive and contrary to the morals of the Church.
