L’ŒUVRE

C’est en regardant les productions de l’année de Frank Polson que l’équipe est tombée sous le charme de l’œuvre Loon Mating Call, qui a inspiré l’affiche. Le huard, qui y est représenté, est une autre bête lumineuse de notre environnement, L’énergie et l’élan que l’on retrouve dans l’œuvre définissent parfaitement le Festival du cinéma international en Abitibi-Témiscamingue qui s’envole depuis 38 ans pour s’élever vers quelque chose de plus grand.

Très visibles dans les médias et sur le web, les critiques de cinéma ont pour mandat de faire connaître au public leur avis sur les films. On oublie parfois qu’ils jouent aussi un important rôle de transmetteurs entre les oeuvres et les spectateurs. Les chemins qui mènent à ce métier sont nombreux, mais les critiques de cinéma ont tous en commun le goût des autres et le désir de communiquer le plaisir du cinéma. Ils doivent être curieux, cultivés et avoir une bonne connaissance du langage cinématographique. Dans le cadre du Festival, Martin Bilodeau permettra au public de démystifier le métier et partagera sa passion avec les festivaliers.

Depuis 2006, Martin Bilodeau est rédacteur en chef de Mediafilm, une agence de presse spécialisée en cinéma, entre autres responsable de l’attribution des cotes (1) – Chef-d’oeuvre à (7) – Minable dans les médias du Québec. Il a été critique et chroniqueur au quotidien Le Devoir (1995-2014) et au magazine Elle Québec (2000-2018) et continue de collaborer régulièrement à la radio de Radio-Canada. Grand défenseur du métier de critique de cinéma, il en a fait son combat à travers Mediafilm, dont la mission éducative consiste à promouvoir le cinéma de qualité et développer le sens critique des jeunes spectateurs.

Her adaptation for the screen, directed by Louise Archambault, was launched at the Toronto International Film Festival last September and seems also poised for a great run.

The Festival offers festivalgoers the chance to see or review the work of Louise Archambault and then discuss with Jocelyne Saucier. Hosted by Jolyne Lalonde, this meeting will allow the public to discover the author's vision of the big screen adaptation of her successful novel, but also on this great adventure that Il pleuvait des oiseaux has been since its publication.

Three old hermits live reclused in the woods. As forest fires threaten the region, their daily lives will be turned upside down by the death of their elder, Boychuck, and the arrival of an octogenarian who has been unfairly locked up all his life. A photographer appointed to interview the witnesses of the deadliest fires of the time finds their lair. The two women will make the astonishing discovery of hundreds of Boychuck paintings that tell his tragic past during these fires. The Festival joins the Creation and New Media Department of the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue to develop an innovative and brilliant digital project for a 6th year! Spectators will have the pleasure of attending multidisciplinary performances combining the performing arts and digital creation.

ROUYN-NORANDA IN 4 STEPS: THÉÂTRE REGAL
Hal Willis, the country singer from Rouyn-Noranda who died in Nashville in 2015, is the only Quebecer to have shared the stage with Elvis Presley. Théâtre Regal’s musicians will introduce you to this songwriter and inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 2010 and then to the Hall of Fame at the Musée du Rock'n'Roll du Québec in 2012.
