Toujours à la barre depuis 40 ans de la programmation et de l’organisation de l’événement, chose plus qu’improbable dans le milieu des festivals de cinéma, les trois fondateurs du Festival n’ont jamais perdu la motivation et la passion de faire vivre ce rassemblement de cinéphiles iconique et effervescent.

Ravi de nous présenter l’affiche soulignant ce 40e anniversaire, Louis Dallaire, vice-président et cofondateur du Festival, indique que le choix de l’artiste ayant inspiré le visuel cette année allait de soi.

« Pour célébrer cette 40e édition, nous voulions mettre de l’avant un artiste qui a marqué le Festival au cours des années et qui a contribué à en faire une destination renommée dans le milieu cinématographique. Gilles est venu au Festival à plusieurs reprises et jusqu’à la fin de sa vie. Il avait un attachement très particulier au Festival et à la région. Alors que nous avons souvent mis en valeur son travail de cinéaste, nous sommes heureux de présenter aujourd’hui Gilles Carle l’illustrateur, dont les œuvres picturales sont empreintes de la même approche bouffonne que certaines de ses œuvres filmiques. “Moi à mon plus beau!” était pour nous le slogan tout désigné pour souligner notre 40e anniversaire. » – Louis Dallaire.

Rappelons que les films de Gilles Carle ont remporté 25 Génie et Canadian Film Awards. En 1989, ONF 50 ans décroche la Palme d’or du court métrage au Festival de Cannes. Le cinéaste reçoit le prix Albert-Tessier pour l’ensemble de son œuvre en 1990. L’Académie des Jutra lui remet le Jutra-hommage en 2001. Il reçoit la médaille de l’Ordre national du Québec en juin 2007 et la France reconnaît son talent en le décorant de la Légion d’honneur. Créateur intense, on dénombre plus d’une centaine de films et de productions diverses (publicités, documentaires) au cours de sa carrière.

 

C’est Stéphanie Cloutier, designer graphique chez LEBLEU Communication humaine, qui encore cette année, s’est approprié l’œuvre de Gilles Carle afin de concevoir cette 40e  affiche du Festival.

Madame Manon Barbeau et les trois cofondateurs du Festival du cinéma international en Abitibi-Témiscamingue, messieurs Jacques Matte, Louis Dallaire et Guy Parent, recevront un doctorat honoris causa, décerné par l’Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue, sous l’égide de l’Université du Québec.

Jacques Matte, Louis Dallaire et Guy Parent ainsi que Manon Barbeau seront ainsi honorés de la plus haute distinction universitaire. Pour les cofondateurs du Festival, cela souligne le travail considérable des trois acolytes depuis la création du Festival, qui a saupoudré de multiples retombées sur les milieux culturel, économique, touristique et social de la région. Pour Manon Barbeau, cette récompense démontre l’importance de sa contribution auprès des jeunes des Premières Nations du Québec, entre autres par la création de la Wapikoni mobile, qui permet à des jeunes Autochtones de se réapproprier leur culture et de l’exprimer par le médium du 7e art.
